This road closure near the new Jubilee Line Southwark station and the Tate Modern was an opportunity to enrich the pedestrian realm and provide new open space for the local housing neighbourhood
Extensive neighbourhood consultation contributed to the design. Concerns focused on pedestrian movement, definition of the private and public realm, children's play, and having a place to sit and chat. The solution was a sculptural landform and seating that defined areas with differing functions, allowing multi-use of space, reflecting the changing populace during the day and week.
